Monte Roulier is Co-Founder and President of Community Initiatives (CI), a network of professionals and partner organizations dedicated to building healthy and whole communities.
Serving as a coach, consultant, and facilitator, he helps a wide range of organizations, including multi-sector collaborations and national initiatives, to improve the health of our social, economic and physical environments. Monte brings expertise in collaborative leadership, strategic planning, board governance, and community and organizational development to these initiatives. The use of dialogue-based techniques to support high-trust relationships and innovative solutions is core to his approach.
Monte helped lead the development of Workforce Engage(TM) , a web-based solution for measuring and sustaining employee engagement, later joining the national healthcare informatics firm that acquired it. Serving as the Director of Client Education and Training, he has worked with several leading healthcare organizations to use feedback systems and quality metrics to improve employee and patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Prior to CI, Monte served as the Senior Community Advisor at the National Civic League (NCL), America’s oldest advocacy organization for citizen democracy and political reform. While at NCL, Monte led its nationally recognized Healthy Communities Program.
Monte also served as President of Service Adventures, Incorporated (SAI), a business that combined volunteerism, education, and sustainable development. While at SAI, he helped form teams of interdisciplinary specialists who joined with international volunteers to establish several key National Parks and Protected Area systems in Russia and Central Asia. Monte co-led a National Geographic sponsored team of scientists and volunteers that discovered and measured the world's longest dinosaur footprint track-way, which was found in northern Turkmenistan. During his time in Central Asia, he was a member of the Save the Children team that initiated the successful micro-credit banking system in Tajikistan.
Monte was a founding board member and chair of the Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH). He currently serves on the advisory board of the Association for Community Health Improvement (ACHI). In addition to his work at the national level, he is also a volunteer board member and advisor to two organizations in his community, the Youzeum and the PedNet Coalition.
Monte is a graduate of DePauw University with a B.A. in Political Science and Communications, and studied Political Science/Economics at Oxford University, England. He lives in Columbia, MO with his wife and three children.
