North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance: Six Chimpanzees Taken to New Home in Washington State
The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance helped re-home six chimpanzees that were abandoned when a Sylmar, CA, sanctuary, Wildlife Waystation, closed in 2019. Their new, happier home, where they will live out the rest of their lives, is located in the Cascade Mountains of Washington. It is comprised of ninety-acres of farm and forested land. Transportation from Sylmar to their new Washington-based home was provided by the Chimpanzees in Need fund.

The Council for Global Equality: Veteran Activist Jessica Stern Named U.S. Envoy for LGBTQ Rights
Jessica Stern has been appointed to serve as United States Envoy for LGBTQ rights, by the Biden administration. The title of Envoy of LGBTQ rights was originally created during the Obama administration. It was originally held by Randy Berry, however, the position was vacant during the Trump administration. The Council for Global Equality could not be happier with the Biden administration’s decision. In a blog post they said, “we could not imagine a better choice to lead President Biden’s vision for equality and human rights abroad.”
Pre-Health Dreamers: Undocu-ally Training for Health Professionals – Building Stronger Connections and A Safer Space for Undocumented Patients
On July 8, at 7pm, Pre-Health Dreamers Director, Yadira Ortiz, and Project Coordinator, Maria De Los Angeles Almaraz, will be hosting an information session for health professionals and pre-health students about working with undocumented patients. In this session, Yadira and Maria will share tips for creating safer spaces in a clinical environment, as well as give advice on how to better connect and build partnerships with undocumented patients.
The Carpentries: 100 Members Strong, A Community Accomplishment
The Carpentries, teachers of computational skills and data science, have reached a true milestone. They are celebrating that their hundredth member! Their community, however, extends beyond their membership. To date, they have taught more than 3,000 classes to over 80,000 students from around the globe. In addition, their efforts have trained and certified 3,100 teachers. They plan to leverage their values, training, and approach, as they strive to add their next 100 members.
