Benefits Manager

Community Initiatives | Oakland/Los Angeles, CA, Hybrid

Community Initiatives is seeking an experienced, strategic, and service-oriented Benefits Manager to lead the design, administration, and continuous improvement of our employee benefits programs including the 401k plan. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of benefits administration, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, supporting employee understanding and access to benefits, and partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality, cost-effective benefits solutions.

This role also oversees leave of absence administration, including managing employee leave requests, coordinating with third-party administrators, ensuring compliance with federal and state leave laws, and supporting employees and managers through the leave and return-to-work process.

The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and collaborative HR professional with deep expertise in benefits administration and Leave of Absence administration, exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to delivering positive employee experience. This is currently a hybrid position based in Oakland or Los Angeles, California, requiring regular in-office presence of at least one day per week.

Accounts Receivable Specialist

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day execution of cash receipts processing, deposit tracking, fundraising and payment platform administration, and accounts receivable support for Community Initiatives and its fiscally sponsored projects (FSPs).

This role plays a critical operational function in ensuring funds received by Community Initiatives are accurately identified, documented, reconciled, and communicated to internal stakeholders. The position works closely with Project Accountants and accounting leadership to support accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and timely resolution of discrepancies across multiple systems.

Project Accountant

Seeking a Project Accountant
The Project Accountant position is a hands-on growth position responsible for the accurate and timely provision of accounting services to support and enhance the Community Initiative’s clients. The Project Accountant will have a working relationship with the Client Services Team and the various projects sponsored by Community Initiatives, as well as provide support for other positions within the administrative section of the organization. Reports to the Assistant Controller.

Birth Justice Ecosystem Fellow

Funders for Birth Justice & Equity | Remote w/limited travel possible

Funders for Birth Justice & Equity is the go-to place for any funder or donor who wants to learn how to effectively fund the birth equity and justice movement. Here donors and funders may find the education, framework for change, resources, peer support, and collective funding opportunities needed to fund the field at a level that will get to systemic and transformative change.

FBJE seeks a Birth Justice Ecosystem Fellow to support a time-limited research and synthesis project focused on current conditions across the birth justice ecosystem.

This fellowship will help FBJE build on existing field knowledge and prior landscape work to better understand what is happening now across the ecosystem, including emerging pressures, field infrastructure needs, and opportunities for more coordinated philanthropic support.

The fellow will support research, data organization, synthesis, and storytelling that will inform FBJE’s 2026 convening and future ecosystem infrastructure work.

Co-Director

Food as Medicine Collaborative | Hybrid, San Francisco area

Food as Medicine Collaborative (FAMC) is transitioning its leadership model from a single director to two co-directors. The current director was the first full-time staff member of FAMC hired in 2018, and has served as the director since 2022. As part of the shift to a co-director model she plans to reduce her hours to part-time. They're looking for someone who complements the skills of their current director, is mission-aligned and equity-centered, and shares qualities like an ability to quickly absorb information, motivate others, and connect the dots across our team. While there are clear areas of responsibility FAMC seeks to fulfill with this position, they anticipate this role evolving alongside organizational needs, and certain responsibilities being determined based on the chosen candidate’s background and interests.

In partnership with the FAMC Advisory Committee and FAMC’s current Director, the new Co-Director will be primarily responsible for operations and administration, resource development and management, and supervision of the backbone staff team. In close collaboration with the current Director, they will also share responsibility for the development and implementation of the Food as Medicine Collaborative’s overall strategy, partnership cultivation, and programmatic quality and sustainability. They will uphold FAMC's core values of equity, healing, partnership, and humility in all aspects of their work.

Operations Manager

Los Angeles Emissary | Los Angeles, CA, Hybrid

The Operations Manager oversees daily operations of the LA Emissary to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The Operations Manager will manage the office operations, actively participate in sustaining a healthy and supportive team culture and work environment, and support various operational tasks and projects for both internal and external-facing relationships.

The Los Angeles Emissary, a project of Community Initiatives, advances housing justice for youth and young adults in Los Angeles County by centering the voices and leadership of those with lived experience of homelessness and system involvement as co-decision makers within the homeless response system; training a network of young people across L.A. County with skills needed to become advocates around funding and policy priorities related to homelessness; and engaging in collaborative decision making to address youth homelessness with young people, funders, providers, county, and system partners. Through a ground-breaking homeless system redesign, we aim to create a youth centered approach that effectively meets the needs and aspirations of unhoused young people.

Program & Leadership Manager

The Healing WELL | San Francisco, CA

The Program & Leadership Manager is a key leadership role for a motivated self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, community-based environment. We are a small team doing mighty work. You will provide strategic leadership, ensuring our approach and offerings align with community needs and opportunities. This position combines program development and management and staff supervision. In partnership with the Director, staff, and participant leaders, you will foster a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where growth can flourish and the community’s vision of wellness and leadership is advanced.

Founded in 2015, The Healing WELL fosters wellness and leadership within the Tenderloin community. We recognize that true healing requires addressing not just physical needs but also mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We offer free daily classes (e.g., yoga, poetry, recovery support groups) as well as 1:1 sessions such as Reiki and Healing Touch. Our Leadership Program supports neighbors in becoming wellness advocates in their community. Through the skills and principles they gain, participant leaders learn to model healthy choices, create wellness programming with community in mind, and advocate with confidence on behalf of their peers. Together, we create a sanctuary for neighbors facing poverty, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges.
