Black Funders Network of the Bay Area Presents: Healing the Impact of Racial Injustice & Inequity

Black Funders Network of the Bay Area is hosting a virtual event focused on individual and collective healing on October 26th led by author, professor, and activist Dr. Shawn Ginwright. Dr. Ginwright will be addressing the impacts of COVID-19 and the need for racial healing, in addition to discussing the tools Black professionals need to utilize in the face of anti-blackness.

Attendance Works on CNN

On October 8th, Executive Director of Attendance Works Hedy Chang and other school attendance experts spoke with CNN Correspondent Evan McMorris-Santoro about the biggest challenges with online school this year and a new framework for monitoring attendance.

In other Attendance Works news, they hosted the last webinar of their 2020 Attendance Awareness Campaign on September 30th. The webinar explored how community, district, and school leaders are supporting student attendance and participation, whether lessons are in person, remote, or a blend. Renaissance Journalism: Equity & Health Reporting Initiative

Renaissance Journalism has awarded $80,000 in grants to four Bay Area news organizations. The news organizations (Cal Matters, El Timpano, Ethnic Media Services, and KALW) will each receive a $20,000 grant for reporting projects that explore the disproportionate impact of systemic inequities on the health and well-being of our region’s most vulnerable communities.

Board Member Highlight

Robert Weiner

CI Board of Directors Service: January 2019–present

Robert is an independent technology consultant. He is also the co-host of TechSoup’s Databases and Software online forum, a founding member of the Association of Advancement Services Professionals (AASP) and winner of the association’s Jonathan Lindsey Lifetime Achievement Award.

Robert has plenty of board experience. In addition to being a member of CI’s Board of Directors, he is also a former board member for AASP, a member of the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network’s (NTEN’s) membership committee, and past President of the Board of Directors of the Z Space Studio, a nonprofit theater incubator. He has served on the board of the Golden Gate Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was president of the board of the UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association.

Robert was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey (hometown of Bugs Bunny!). He holds a B.A. in Planning and Public Policy from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with Highest Honors. He has been married to his wife for 37 years, and they have lived in San Francisco for 31 years. Robert loves food, music (mostly Americana, jazz, old-time blues, Cajun, Balkan, African, Norteño, Conjunto, and other music from around the world), and live theater.
