The Council for Global Equality: August Edition of Global Equality Today
The Council for Global Equality (TCGE) just published the August issue of Global Equality Today, its newsletter intended to keep everyone informed on LBGTQI news. TCGE is working closely with the Biden administration to ensure leadership is on board with the advancement of equality for the LBGTQI community. This newsletter contains important updates on congressional developments, such as working with the foreign affairs committee on improving and protecting rights for LBGTQI individuals abroad; it also contains updates on pro-LBGTQI in the executive branch, including President Biden’s issuance of a fact sheet on May 17 to catalogue progress and demonstrate support for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. The newsletter highlights international LBGTQI developments as well.
The Fruit Guys Community Fund: The Fruit Guys to Provide Aid to Small American Farms Despite The Pandemic
Despite funding setbacks caused by the pandemic, The Fruit Guys Community Fund has announced the recipients of their 2021 grants. Grants totaling $15,000 will be distributed to three farms, which are agriculture nonprofits, located on the U.S. west, east, and south-central coasts. Sheila Casani, Project Director of the Fund, explains, “small American farms play a key role in local economic and environmental prosperity, and the sustainability project we are funding will have lasting impact both on the farms we are funding and in their neighboring communities.”
ComSciCon: Flagship Workshop 2021
ComSciCon’s ninth annual flagship workshop took place August 4 through August 7. The workshop curriculum offered a series of panel discussions, “pop talks”, a data visualization seminar, and networking opportunities.
ComSciCon, affiliated with Harvard University, provides graduate students with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet early career leaders in Science Communication, learn from and interact with a remarkable group of invited experts, and produce original work communicating complex technical concepts from science and engineering to a new audience.
Immigrants Rising: Immigrants Rising Launches Spark, An Entrepreneurship Hub
Immigrants Rising held a webinar on August 11 at 4pm, featuring a preview of their new entrepreneurship hub, Spark. They plan to educate interested parties on how to apply for SEED funding, a program to support entrepreneurial efforts among immigrants within the state of California. The event was recorded if you are interested.
Immigrants Rising empowers undocumented young people to achieve educational and career goals through personal, institutional, and policy transformation.

Mary Ann has worked in a variety of organizations from asset management and investment firms to nonprofits. She has held senior finance, accounting, and audit positions at Barclays Global Investors, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of the West, and Bank of America as well as the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation and has served on the Board of New Resource Bank in San Francisco. She is currently the US Finance Director for Funding Circle, a small business peer to peer lending network, and is a member of the Board of Clean Water Action, a Washington D.C. based organization which works to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking, and people power to the table.
Mary Ann is committed to integrity in financial reporting and has a particular interest in creating incentives to encourage sustainable business behavior through transparency and disclosure.
Mary Ann holds an inactive CPA license, with experience in public accounting at Arthur Andersen & Co. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado with a degree in accounting and is an active member of the American Institute of CPA’s.
