Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world differently. On August 10, Academic Research Consortium held a session on neurodiversity. Understanding neurodiversity is presently more important than at any other time in history because more students are being diagnosed as neurodiverse in one way or another.

Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance
Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance is leading an effort among all sixteen of its sanctuary members to raise funds for the rescue of 200 lions and other big cats in Mexico. The cats were discovered after a government raid. Unfortunately, the big cats are malnourished, underweight, and have open wounds. The Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance wants to be sure that they are re-homed to improved environments that will allow them to heal and thrive.

Gameheads
You’re invited to join Gameheads for their 8th Annual Student Showcase. The event will be held in their new Oakland studio space on Saturday, August 27, from 3pm–6pm. There will be food, music, and of course, games! This event is free.

Attendance Works
School’s back in session! To help keep students and their families on track, Attendance Works is offering a calendar and the Student Success Plan and Help Bank for download for the 2022-2023 new school year. These are also perfect for teachers to work with families and students and available for preschool, elementary, and secondary grade students and in multiple languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese (elementary level also includes Creole).

Vision Zero Network
Roadway deaths are escalating nationwide, but these tragedies can be prevented with known strategies. With new funding available, it’s time to prioritize safe mobility for all, especially people walking and biking, communities of color, and people in low-income communities. Check out Vision Zero Network’s tips for how your community can secure money for Safe Streets and Roads for All. The deadline is September 15, 2022, so get on the road to safety now!
